Paws on a Path is a female owned and operated pet care business that has been serving Malibu, Topanga, Woodland Hills for over 17 years. We go the extra mile to support dog owners in loving and caring for their pets. From dog hiking, training, and ranch boarding, we make sure your dog stays safe, active, and enriched. We are here to help!
Our services
DOG HIKING
Our most popular service is dog hiking; a time for pups to exercise, socialize, and explore. Join us for our group dog hikes! We take your dog on an adventure with our pack to explore nature and get active. We pick up your pup, hike them in a safe group setting and drop them off.
The actually duration of the hike duration is typically one hour long, but expect your dog to be away for 1.5-2 hours for the entire excursion. We currently offer group hikes in Malibu and Topanga. Our hikers are equipped with water, treats, poo bags, and first aid kits.

DOG WALKING
We provide private dog walks for dogs of all kinds. We make sure walks are enriching and exerting, so your dogs not only get exercise, but they get to brush up on skills and activities.
Dog walks are 45min to 1 hr. Our walkers pick-up your dog and walk them at the length requested in your neighborhood. We provide treats, poo bags, and water, however if you wish your walker bring a leash or other requests, please let us know!
Many clients enjoy this option for dogs who have trouble with other dogs and dogs who pull on the leash.
DAY CARE
This is a popular option for dog parents who work away from home, dogs who have separation anxiety, or dogs who are very high-energy. Our style of day care comprises of two one hour hikes. Dogs join our staff members on their group hikes throughout the day, getting the chance to socialize, hike, and have meals if necessary. We pick up your dog, and we drop them off. We guarantee they will be tuckered out!
Please note that this service is very specific to location.
PET SITTING
We provide dog care at your house through our Pet Sitting service! Some dogs are particular about their spaces and are not comfortable boarding with other dogs for whatever reason. We believe in pets should be cared for where they feel safe. One of our trusted and trained staff members will care for your animals in your own space and on your terms, so you don’t have to worry while you’re away!
We offer hourly petsitting services (depending on location) and overnight petsitting services.
RANCH BOARDING
Going on a vacation? Send your dog on a vacation too! We offer boarding at our 20 acre ranch in Lake Hughes, Ca, where your pup can be in a spacious, safe, and nurturing environment. At Wild Horizon Farm, your dog can have playtime in a big fenced in area, daily hikes, and 24 hour care.
Because of location is far from LA, transport is included with the price of boarding for certain neighborhoods (PCH, Rt 27). If you do not live on route but require transport, there will be a transport charge. We pick up your pet to bring them to the ranch in the afternoon. After their stay, we return them to your home in the afternoon.
We do not offer transportation services to/from the Ranch on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. However, we can arrange for a pet taxi service between your house and the ranch. You are welcome to pick up or drop off your dog at the ranch any day of the week!
We are gifted with a very experienced and talented staff that have been trained to work with all types of dogs. Big, small, senior, puppies, anxious, untrained, high-energy, anti-social, and dogs with medical needs. However, we cannot take dogs that are aggressive with other animals or other dogs.

Founder, Owner
Thea, originally from the UK, moved to Los Angeles to pursue her dream of working with animals in nature. Thea has a lifelong interest in advocating for animals, and making rescue efforts. She studied Equine management, care, training, and riding instruction in college. Thea started Paws on a Path over 16 years ago, hiking with the dogs. She has since grown the business to serve multiple Los Angeles neighbourhoods, extended the range of services, and has opened a ranch, and animal rescue in Lake Hughes, CA called – Wild Horizon Farm. Thea feels that providing exercise, and socialization for dogs, facilitates happiness, and stability, which in turn positively affects the lives of their owners, and families. “All animals deserve the best we can offer them. It’s the most worthwhile, and rewarding work.”

I’ve had plenty of personal experience around dogs, having owned multiple dogs, watched and walked other people’s dogs for years, and as a dog volunteer at an animal shelter.

Millie is a very friendly and active person from Michigan. She has been around animals her entire life and has a deep passion for animals. She loves the outdoors and especially loves taking care of the dogs. She has been taking care of all different types of animals all her life. Hiking dogs is the perfect job for her and loves every second of it.

Amanda is a creative and active person originally from Boston. She has always had a deep love and interest in nature and in animals. She finds pet care to be extremely gratifying. She has been dog walking and pet sitting for 10+ years. Her most impactful experience has been volunteering at Last Hope K9, helping rehabilitate rescues from the south and find them good furever homes. She was hiking dogs in the Topanga Valley, which was a dream come true for her everyday. Now, she helps the business on the administrative side.
